Construction Worker Killed in Playa del Carmen After Wall Collapses

Authorities at the construction site in Playa del Carmen where a worker died

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A construction worker died Friday morning after a wall collapsed at a building site in Playa del Carmen’s Ejido neighborhood.

The 25-year-old laborer was working on the first floor of the Gobernador 28 development around 10 a.m. when a structure from the sixth level gave way and fell on him, according to preliminary reports. The incident occurred on Avenida 38 between streets 115 and 125.

Fellow construction workers immediately called emergency services. Paramedics arrived minutes later but confirmed the young man showed no vital signs.

Other workers were evacuated from the site to allow officials to conduct their investigation.

The State Prosecutor’s Office and civil protection personnel are investigating the collapse to determine its cause. Unofficial reports suggest possible structural failures, though authorities will confirm the details.

Forensic experts transported the body to the medical examiner’s office, where it will remain until released to family members.

Investigations continue to determine responsibility and verify whether the construction site complied with current safety regulations.
