Merida, Yucatan — A Kenworth truck carrying a double gondola loaded with concrete crashed off the road on the Merida-Cancun highway Sunday afternoon, authorities said.
The driver, identified as Rafael M. Oropeza, 46, lost control of the heavy vehicle at kilometer 105, causing it to leave the asphalt and slam into a concrete barrier. The impact caused significant material damage and prompted authorities to intervene to prevent further incidents.
Red Cross paramedics treated the driver, who suffered a severe panic attack but did not require hospitalization.
State police and National Guard officers secured the area and coordinated safety measures for motorists while the wrecked truck was removed.
No injuries were reported. Officials urged drivers to respect speed limits and drive cautiously to prevent such accidents.
