Playa del Carmen Dog Abuse Victim Gets Full Care

Playa del Carmen, QRoo — In a firm demonstration of commitment to animal welfare, Mayor Estefanía Mercado expressed her support for the team at the Centro de Control Animal y Atención Zoonótica (Cencaaz) following the rescue of a female dog who was a victim of sexual abuse. The case is under medical evaluation and specialized monitoring.

The dog, located in a state of vulnerability, was immediately transported to Cencaaz, where she is receiving veterinary attention, psychological care, and legal protection. The mayor forcefully condemned the mistreatment the animal endured and reiterated that her administration will not tolerate any type of violence towards animals. "Cruelty has no place in Playa del Carmen. We are going to apply the full weight of the law," Mercado declared.

The Cencaaz multidisciplinary team has initiated a complete medical evaluation, including clinical studies and recovery therapies. Legal protocols have been activated in coordination with the State Prosecutor's Office to investigate and sanction the person or persons responsible.

The mayor instructed the corresponding departments to provide legal and emotional support, both for the animal and for the citizens who collaborated in the rescue.

This case has revived the call to strengthen a culture of respect and reporting. The administration, through the Dirección de Bienestar Animal, reiterated the importance of reporting any situation of mistreatment to the citizen attention number.

The dog will remain under the guardianship of Cencaaz until her physical and emotional recovery is guaranteed, as well as her future responsible adoption.
