Cancún, Quintana Roo — A Colombian woman accused of fatally stabbing her partner at the Hotel Solymar in Cancún has been handed over to a judge to face aggravated homicide charges.
The attack occurred Monday night in the parking lot of the Hotel Solymar, at Kilometer 18.5 of the Hotel Zone. According to initial reports, the couple, both originally from Colombia, argued inside a parked vehicle around 10 p.m. The woman allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the man about 15 times, mainly in the chest and abdomen.
Tourist Police and state investigators from the State Prosecutor’s Office (FGE) responded. They found the man dead in the driver’s seat, and the woman was arrested at the scene and turned over to prosecutors.
The FGE confirmed the case had been formally submitted to the courts after the initial 48-hour window for filing charges had closed, but has not released an official account of the investigation. A judge is expected to hold an initial hearing in the coming hours to determine whether the arrest was lawful and whether prosecutors have enough evidence to proceed with the aggravated homicide charge.
