Weather map showing areas under surveillance for significant storm development in Quintana Roo due to Cold Front 43

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Cold Front 43, interacting with an upper-level trough and moisture from the Caribbean Sea, will bring unstable weather conditions to Quintana Roo over the next 24 hours, including heavy rains and extreme heat.

The State Civil Protection Coordination (Coeproc) warned of increased cloud cover and the likelihood of strong, isolated rains accompanied by electrical activity, primarily during the afternoon and evening of Monday, April 6, 2026.

Cold Front 43 Details

  • Phenomenon: Cold Front 43 extends from Florida to Tabasco, directly affecting the Yucatan Peninsula.
  • Precipitation: Accumulations of 25 to 50 mm are expected with lightning strikes.
  • Extreme Heat: Despite the rains, the thermal sensation will reach 39°C in municipalities like Felipe Carrillo Puerto.
  • Waves: Waves of 2 to 5 feet are reported in the Yucatan Channel and along the state’s coasts.

Municipal Forecast: Heat and Showers

The meteorological report details that most of the state will experience a hot to very hot environment.

In the northern zone, municipalities such as Benito Juárez (Cancún), Isla Mujeres, and Puerto Morelos will record maximum temperatures of 34°C with thermal sensations of 37°C. Intermittent showers and wind gusts of up to 40 km/h are forecast.

For the central zone, in Felipe Carrillo Puerto, the highest temperature in the state is expected, with a maximum of 36°C and a stifling thermal sensation of 39°C.

In contrast, the southern zone, including Chetumal (Othón P. Blanco) and Bacalar, will maintain cloudy skies with heavy rains and maximum temperatures of 33°C.

Civil Protection Recommendations

Given the arrival of this frontal system and the persistence of the heat wave in other regions of the country, local authorities urge the population to follow these measures:

  1. Thermal Protection: Dress warmly against sudden temperature changes, especially protecting children and the elderly.
  2. Road Safety: Exercise extreme caution when driving due to morning fog banks and wet pavement during rains.
  3. Navigation: Consult with the Port Captaincy before engaging in aquatic activities due to elevated waves.
  4. Hydration: Stay hydrated amid the high thermal sensations that will persist during the day.

Cold Front 43 not only affects the peninsula; in states like Veracruz, Oaxaca, and Chiapas, intense rains and a “Norte” event with gusts of up to 80 km/h are expected.

In Quintana Roo, residents are advised to stay alert to official updates from Coeproc through its social media channels.
