Quintana Roo, Mexico — A cold front is expected to bring chilly temperatures, rain, and strong winds to Quintana Roo this weekend, prompting authorities to issue health precautions for residents.
Cold Front 40 is forecast to reach the Yucatan Peninsula on March 12-13, according to civil protection officials. The system will bring rain, strong winds, and rough seas to the region.
Authorities are advising residents to stay home unless necessary and to monitor the health of children, elderly individuals, people with disabilities, and pets. They also recommend checking with local port authorities and schools about possible class suspensions due to low temperatures.
Health Recommendations
State officials have shared several recommendations to help residents stay healthy during the cold weather:
- Wear sweaters or jackets
- Dress in layers to adapt to morning cold and afternoon warmth
- Drink plenty of water
- Eat healthy foods
- Avoid sudden temperature changes
Authorities also warn about respiratory illnesses like flu and influenza that can be triggered by abrupt temperature changes, going outside with wet hair, or not wearing proper cold-weather clothing.
The cold front arrives as the region approaches cyclone season, which typically brings increased rainfall to Quintana Roo.
