Tulum, Quintana Roo — With a firm commitment to improving the quality of life for individuals with disabilities and elderly residents, Tulum Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo conducted an inspection of the DIF Tulum Equine Therapy Center, the only specialized facility of its kind in the state of Quintana Roo.
A Vital Resource for Rehabilitation
Accompanied by Belia Beltrán Aguilera, Director of the Municipal DIF System, the mayor assessed the facility’s conditions and the well-being of its five therapy horses—Palomo, Paloma, Caricia, Choco, and Late—which play a crucial role in providing comprehensive physical therapy. These sessions have proven instrumental in advancing the physical, emotional, and cognitive development of children, adolescents, and elderly participants.
“Our goal is clear: to ensure children with any type of condition achieve a better quality of life. That’s why we are here, verifying that everything operates optimally and that the team remains fully dedicated,” Castañón stated after observing a therapy session with two young beneficiaries, Thiago and Sarahi.
Impact and Accessibility
Since its opening in August 2024, the center has delivered over 2,000 therapy sessions, serving 140 individuals, primarily children with motor disabilities. Each 25-minute session focuses on improving balance, coordination, muscle strength, posture, language skills, and socialization.
Mayor Castañón urged the community to take advantage of this resource, emphasizing its inclusivity: “This center is for everyone. We want more people to learn about its benefits so no child or elderly person goes without care.”
The facility stands as a testament to Tulum’s dedication to accessible healthcare and rehabilitation services.
