CHETUMAL — The president of the National Chamber of Commerce (Canaco) in Chetumal, Amir Padilla, has expressed his support for Royal Caribbean's investment in the port of Mahahual in the south of Quintana Roo.

The business leader explained that the investment Royal Caribbean will make in Mahahual in the coming years is an opportunity to revitalize public service infrastructure for the population, as well as to attract more investors and for entrepreneurs to boost their projects.

The head of the organized commerce sector in the south of the state reported that the multi-million dollar investment will generate a considerable number of jobs during the process of remodeling the port and the construction of facilities, the transportation center, the commercial village, and the tour center.

"The investment by Royal Caribbean will be based on environmental protection criteria, one of the fundamental commitments negotiated by the governor to attract this multi-million dollar project," stated Padilla. "In fact, we know that Royal Caribbean considers respect for the environment, community social inclusion, and, primarily, the reactivation of the local and regional economy as essential, reinforcing the value chain of the supply provision in various commercial sectors that will attend to both the demands of the staff who will be working and the requirements for the construction of the infrastructure."

For the president of Canaco Servytur Chetumal Tulum, these projects that are set to boost the region are of great importance. "For years we have asked for capital to come to the southern zone of the state, so we must identify the areas of opportunity and join the government's efforts to attract more capital of this level."

Amir Padilla Espadas added that other investments in the hotel sector are being registered in Mahahual, which is reaffirming the area as a driver of the southern zone's economy in the coming years.
