Mexico City, Mexico — Mexican baseball will make history this weekend as two domestic teams face off in the Caribbean Series final for the first time. The Charros de Jalisco defeated Puerto Rico’s Cangrejeros de Santurce 8-6 on Friday to advance to the championship game, where they will meet the Tomateros de Culiacán.
The victory guarantees a Mexican champion for the first time since the Venados de Mazatlán won the title in 2016. The Charros and Tomateros will reprise their recent Mexican Pacific League final, where Jalisco swept Culiacán 4-0.
Jalisco has now won eight consecutive games against Culiacán, including three regular-season matchups, four playoff games, and one earlier Caribbean Series meeting. However, the Tomateros will have a chance for redemption in Saturday’s final, though the Charros’ home-field advantage could extend their dominance.
The Caribbean Series, an annual tournament featuring champion teams from Latin American winter leagues, will crown its 2026 champion on Saturday night.
