The killing of “La Casilda,” a hitman for the Caborca Cartel identified as a priority target and generator of violence in Felipe Carrillo Puerto, marked a new criminal escalation this Wednesday that once again placed the municipality on alert and exposed complicity at the highest levels of the municipal administration as well as serious deficiencies in the conduct of security operations.
The police operation and the shootout between hitmen in the service of the Caborca Cartel also expose the high level of corruption prevailing in that municipality.
An unofficial but relevant detail that has emerged is that among those detained is a woman named María José Aguilar Maldonado, apparently a close relative of a high-ranking municipal official in Felipe Carrillo Puerto.
Additionally, it is reported that during the confrontation, one of the Caborca Cartel’s plaza chiefs in Felipe Carrillo Puerto, identified as Vladimir Moreno, managed to escape.
According to preliminary information, the incident occurred during an armed confrontation reported this morning in the Cecilio Chí neighborhood, following a 911 call that mobilized police forces to a private residence, where the alleged member of the criminal group known as “Los Caborca” was killed.
Far from being a clean and contained operation, the situation escalated into a high-speed chase through various city streets, which ended in a multiple-vehicle crash that damaged two cars and a motorcycle, allegedly belonging to medical personnel from the Francisco Arana Tun Health Center, increasing the risk to civilians unrelated to the events.
In this context, the detention of María José Aguilar Maldonado emerged; she is identified as the romantic partner of plaza chief Vladimir Moreno, who escaped the confrontation.
Unofficially, she is also linked to criminal activities such as illegal deprivations of liberty, in addition to her closeness to local political circles, which has generated public concern.
While forensic experts from the Central Zone Vice Prosecutor’s Office conducted the recovery of the body and ballistic evidence, municipal authorities limited themselves to recommending that the population remain sheltered, without issuing a clear official report to date explaining the scope, results, and responsibilities of the operation.
The impact of the violence was immediate: educational institutions, such as the “Leona Vicario” secondary school, suspended Christmas activities for security reasons, reflecting how insecurity not only claims lives but also paralyzes social, school, and community life, once again calling into serious question the real effectiveness of the security strategy in Felipe Carrillo Puerto.
