Cancún, Quintana Roo — A vehicle struck a Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) pole after being hit by another car, leaving residents of the Santa Fe residential complex without electricity for over an hour. The incident resulted in two injured individuals.
The accident was reported to the Municipal Traffic Department around 6:55 p.m. on Sunday at the intersection of Avenues 127 and Fonatur, in front of a convenience store that also suffered damage due to the power outage.
Initial reports indicated the accident was caused by the driver of a blue Chevrolet Aveo, who was traveling on Avenue 127 and, while making a U-turn, entered a lane with right-of-way.
With this maneuver, the driver collided with a gray Honda Accord driven by a woman, which was then projected into a concrete CFE pole. This caused some cables to catch fire and ultimately led to a power supply cut in this residential area.
In response to this emergency situation, a Fire Department unit arrived at the scene and confirmed there had been a flare-up in some cables.
Paramedics from a private ambulance provided first aid to a man and a woman who were traveling as passengers in one of the vehicles, and they were subsequently transported to a private hospital.
Traffic Department experts carried out the necessary procedures for removing the involved vehicles, and later, CFE personnel worked to restore electrical service in this part of the city.
In another accident that occurred during the early morning hours on Huayacán Avenue, a vehicle collided with a public lighting pole, causing cables to fall in the middle of the roadway and obstructing traffic for some time.
Initial versions indicated the driver was apparently intoxicated when he lost control and collided with the pole.
