Cancún, QRoo — Sargassum, one of the main environmental challenges on the coasts of Quintana Roo, could become an opportunity. To this end, Cancún will host the workshop “Sargassum: A New Fishing Resource,” where specialists will share ideas and alternatives for its sustainable management and utilization.

The activity aims to share technological and innovative alternatives to address the problem of sargassum arrivals, promoting its use as raw material and fostering the development of sustainable solutions with social and economic impact.

The workshop will take place on two dates: Friday, January 23 and Friday, January 30, 2026, from 10:00 to 13:00 hours, at the Water Sciences Unit, located in Supermanzana 64 of Cancún.

It is aimed at sargassum collectors, community associations, civil organizations, decision-makers, and the general public interested in learning strategies for the proper management of this seaweed.

During the sessions, topics related to the utilization of sargassum, its transformation into sustainable opportunities, and the application of scientific knowledge to reduce its environmental impact on coastal areas will be addressed.
