Cancún Women’s International Half Marathon Consolidates City as Sports Tourism Hub
Cancún, Mexico — The Cancún Women’s International Half Marathon has established itself as one of Mexico’s most significant sporting events and a key driver of sports tourism in the Mexican Caribbean, projecting international impact with growing participation from athletes worldwide.
Four years after marking a turning point in its history, the event’s growth is substantial. For its 2026 edition, organizers expect 2,500 runners from over 25 countries, figures that confirm its positioning as a global competition and reinforce Cancún’s prestige as a host for high-level sporting events.
The historic leap for the Half Marathon occurred in 2022, when it gathered 850 athletes from 21 countries, elevating both competitive and organizational standards. In that edition, Brazilian runner Gisele Bittencourt claimed victory with a time of 1 hour, 28 minutes, and 43 seconds, setting a women’s record that marked a before-and-after moment in the race’s history.
In 2026, the Women’s International Half Marathon will celebrate its eleventh edition, reaffirming itself as a platform for empowerment, inclusion, and sports projection. The competition will take place on Sunday, March 1, at 6:30 a.m., starting at Malecón Tajamar, initiating a symbolic trilogy that honors the essence, strength, and value of women both within and outside sports.
The event takes place within the framework of International Women’s Day and includes distances of 5, 10, and 21 kilometers, with categories including Libre, Submaster, Master, Veterans, and Veterans Plus. The route will include Malecón Tajamar and pass through Parque Cancún, combining urban and natural environments.
Beyond the competition, the Half Marathon has become an authentic sports celebration, featuring a festive atmosphere, mariachi bands, roses as symbols of recognition, and an emotional awards ceremony. Its impact transcends sports by generating economic spillover and strengthening Cancún’s image as a destination capable of hosting international competitions.
Registration is now open for a maximum of 2,500 athletes through registro.motionevents.mx, inviting runners from Mexico and around the world to participate in this emblematic race that pays tribute to feminine strength.
