Cancún, Mexico — The traditional parade commemorating the anniversary of the Mexican Revolution will not take place on November 20th in Cancún. Instead, a civic representation will be held at the Plaza de la Reforma, announced Alejandro Luna, Director of the Sports Institute.
The official explained that the decision aims to maintain the commemorative character of the date without generating traffic chaos, as the holiday falls on a Thursday, a workday with high vehicular volume in the city's center.
Over 2,000 Participants in Civic Event
Luna detailed that the representation will involve the participation of nearly 2,000 people, including schools, sports clubs, armed forces, and police elements. "We will not have a parade as such; there will be a civic event. We want to celebrate this day without causing traffic and without it going unnoticed," stated the director.
The activity will begin with a flag display that will depart from the City Hall parking lot and proceed towards the center of the Plaza de la Reforma. The internal route will conclude near the area designated for the city council members.
Schools, Clubs, and Security Forces Join Official Ceremony
According to the Director of the Sports Institute, more than 15 schools, in addition to sports clubs and security forces, will participate in the event. As part of the ceremony, awards will also be presented to the winners of the Sports Merit Award.
For his part, the Undersecretary of Education in the northern zone, Luis Alberto Tun Calderón, confirmed that the schools are ready to collaborate in the programming organized by the Directorate of Civic Events. "Of course the schools will participate; we are going to collaborate in this event, because we must celebrate with pride a date so important for the Mexican Revolution," he assured.
