Cancún, Mexico — Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa announced that Aer Lingus will begin direct flights from Dublin to Cancún starting January 2026, reinforcing Quintana Roo’s leadership in tourism with expanded air connectivity.
Strengthening Tourism Ties
The new route, set to operate three times weekly, will provide Irish tourists with direct access to the Mexican Caribbean’s natural beauty, archaeological sites, entertainment, culture, and gastronomy across the state’s 12 tourist destinations.
Governor Lezama stated, “This new air service will launch on January 6, opening opportunities for travelers across Europe and the United Kingdom to connect with Quintana Roo. Visitors can also explore beyond sun and beach by experiencing the 12 stations of the Maya Train.”
Cultural and Economic Impact
During the announcement, Lezama emphasized Quintana Roo’s rich Maya heritage, including traditional cuisine, artisan embroidery, and archaeological wonders like the recently opened Ichkabal site.
She added, “In this new era of governance, and marking 50 years of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Ireland, we join hands with the private sector to ensure shared prosperity reaches every home. Under this humanist, feminist-hearted government, no one is left behind or excluded.”
The initiative aligns with broader efforts to enhance tourism infrastructure and promote Quintana Roo’s diverse attractions.
