Cancún, Q. Roo.- In celebration of Pride Month, the organizers of "Cancún Pride 2024" are collaborating with the City Council to establish an emblem for businesses that support diversity. This emblem will recognize businesses that participate in sensitivity training and employ a diverse workforce.
The goal, as explained by a representative from the Organizing Committee, is to not only secure permits for the Pride Month activities beginning on June 11th, but also to encourage businesses to host these training sessions and to adopt the emblem.
The organizers have already begun implementing this initiative in private universities and some public secondary schools. This year, businesses that wish to participate in the Pride March are being asked to commit to these training sessions. In return, these businesses will receive a package deal that includes the requirement to employ a diverse workforce and to participate in visibility talks.
The City Council's involvement is intended to give the emblem more credibility and to encourage more hotels to participate in the training sessions. In addition, the City Council has been requested to offer discounted days for individuals seeking to change their name and gender on their birth certificates. They have also been asked to install a commemorative plaque in "Frida Kahlo" park, also known as Diversity Park.
The "Cancún Pride 2024" activities will kick off on June 11th with the illumination of the City Hall. The Pride March will take place on June 22nd, starting at Malecón Tajamar and ending at Las Palapas Park.
