Cancún, Mexico — The Cancún Municipal Choir has secured its first international gold medal at a prestigious choral competition in Aarhus, Denmark, triumphing in the Folklore category and earning a direct qualification to the Grand Prix of Nations, where the world’s top choirs will compete.
A Historic Victory for Mexican Choral Music
The ensemble, a cultural pride of Benito Juárez Municipality, traveled to Europe last Thursday, stopping in Paris before arriving in Denmark. Upon arrival, the choir immediately began rehearsals, acoustic tests, and technical preparations for their performance, which took place Sunday at 10:00 a.m. (Cancún time).
The international jury awarded the Mexican group the highest score in its category, cementing its reputation as one of the continent’s finest in folk choral interpretation.
“Our choir just won the gold medal in Folklore! And not only that—their performance was so outstanding that they advanced directly to the Grand Prix. This is a victory for everyone!” expressed the emotional members, acknowledging the support of Carlos López Jiménez, Director of the Benito Juárez Institute of Culture and the Arts, and the full backing of Municipal President Ana Paty Peralta.
Pursuing Further Glory
The choir’s achievements do not end here. The group continues its participation with sights set on a second gold medal at the Grand Prix of Nations on July 3. The following day, they will compete in the Chamber Choirs category, where another victory could secure them a place in a second global final.
Through discipline, passion, and powerful artistry, the Cancún Municipal Choir has proven that local talent not only competes but excels on the world’s most demanding stages. Their success stands as a testament to the highest expression of Mexican choral music.
Congratulations to the Cancún Municipal Choir—Mexico sings with you.
