Cancún Launches Free ‘Ruta Mar’ Transport Service to Connect Residents with Hotel Zone Beaches
Cancún, Mexico — The State Government has launched “Ruta Mar,” a completely free transportation service designed to facilitate access for Cancún families to recreation areas by connecting various points in the city with the main beaches of the Hotel Zone.
This program, under the slogan “Cancún Nos Une” (Cancún Unites Us), aims to ensure all residents have the opportunity to enjoy public beaches without transportation costs being a barrier. The service is divided into two strategic routes covering much of the urban area.
The new Ruta Mar of Cancún will be free.
Route Details and Connections
To optimize transportation, specific boarding and disembarking points have been established for both routes:
Ruta Mar 1
This line primarily serves areas near the center and main avenues:
- Departure Points: Base Torito, Multiplaza Villas, ISSSTE, and Rehoyada.
- Destinations (Beaches): Playa Las Perlas, Playa Langosta, Playa Tortugas, and Base Forum.
- Schedule: Departures to the beach begin at 10:00 and end at 18:00 hours. Returns from the beach area operate from 11:00 to 19:00 hours.
Ruta Mar 2
Designed to connect residents from more distant residential areas:
- Departure Points: Base 3 Reyes, Pases Kusamil, and Bodega Aurrera Tierra Maya.
- Destinations (Beaches): Like Ruta 1, it reaches Playa Las Perlas, Playa Langosta, Playa Tortugas, and Base Forum.
- Schedule: The operating schedule is identical, with departures from 10:00 to 18:00 hours and returns from 11:00 to 19:00 hours.
The implementation of Ruta Mar is part of the transformation and social welfare strategies of the current administration (2022-2027), focusing on returning the use and enjoyment of public spaces to local citizens.
Users are recommended to arrive early at the established departure points to secure their place in this free service.
The service operates Monday through Sunday, from 6:00 to 22:00 hours, allowing efficient transportation of students, workers, and parents to schools, workplaces, and commercial areas. This route aims to reduce travel times and strengthen connectivity at strategic points in the state capital.
IMOVEQROO called on the population to use this new route and join the transformation of mobility in Chetumal, emphasizing that improving public transportation is fundamental to advancing toward collective well-being, a more organized city, and a better quality of life.
For her part, Ana Paty Peralta explained that the service is governed by the Reglamento del Buen Cancunense (Good Cancún Resident Regulations), which establishes clear rules to ensure a safe and respectful experience during trips. Among the provisions highlighted are the prohibition of consuming alcoholic beverages, not bringing glass containers to the beach, not littering, taking care of the units, and maintaining appropriate coexistence among users.
