Cancún, Mexico — The city of Cancún hosted the opening ceremony for the sixth edition of the National Down Syndrome Football Championship 2025, an event that promotes social inclusion through sports. This edition features 120 players from seven Mexican states and Guatemala, solidifying the importance of adapted sports as a tool for integration and personal development.
The ceremony was led by Governor Mara Lezama, who reaffirmed the commitment of the Quintana Roo government to promoting sports for people with disabilities through support for lodging and food managed by the Quintana Roo Sports Commission (CODEQ). The event also saw the attendance of local authorities and representatives from different teams, such as the Club Inclusivo Delfines and Jaguares de Chiapas.
This tournament will conclude on November 16 with the final matches, highlighting the participation of national and international teams that contribute to strengthening the visibility of inclusive sports in the region. The initiative reflects the coordinated work between public and private institutions to promote a more equitable and active society in the fight against social exclusion and discrimination.
