Cancún Heat Alert: Officials Urge Precautions During Summer Vacation

Cancún, Quintana Roo — With temperatures soaring during the summer vacation period, the Benito Juárez Civil Protection Department is urging residents and tourists to take extra precautions against heatstroke, dehydration, and sunburn, especially during outdoor activities.

Department director Antonio Riveroll Ribbon said the vacation safety operation continues in coordination with municipal and state agencies, with a focus on preventive measures to protect both locals and visitors.

Riveroll noted that Quintana Roo reports a high number of sunburn cases due to sun exposure. He recommended staying well hydrated, avoiding prolonged sun exposure, and wearing long-sleeved, light-colored clothing to reduce the effects of radiation.

He also urged people to apply sunscreen and pay special attention to children and older adults, who are most vulnerable to heatstroke.

Riveroll advised carrying a water bottle at all times, staying in shaded areas when possible, and avoiding outdoor activities during peak sunlight hours.

Civil Protection reminded the public that heatstroke symptoms include dizziness, headache, weakness, nausea, and loss of consciousness, and urged anyone experiencing these signs to seek immediate medical attention.

Authorities emphasized that prevention is key to safely enjoying the summer holidays and reducing health risks from high temperatures.
