Cancún to Host First Federally Sanctioned Stunt Motorcycle Tournament in Quintana Roo

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Cancún will host the first federally sanctioned stunt motorcycle tournament in Quintana Roo this weekend, marking a milestone for the sport in the state. The Copa Stunt event will take place on April 12 at 10:00 a.m. at the Punto de Entrene Urbano in the Benito Juárez municipality.

Ricardo Moreno, president of the civil association Motociclistas Solidarios and the Association of Sports, Educational, Tourism and Extreme Motorcycling of Quintana Roo (Amedetqroo), announced the tournament. Known as “El Diablo,” Moreno said this will be one of the largest stunt events in the state, with confirmed participants from Mexico and other countries.

“This is the first event endorsed by federal authorities, and Quintana Roo will be the first to have a tournament backed by the government,” Moreno stated.

All participants must have a valid motorcycle license to compete. The event is open to all motorcyclists and enthusiasts who wish to attend. Competitors who register will receive certification as stunt athletes from the State of Quintana Roo.

Competition Categories and Evaluation Criteria

Samuel Gómez Muñiz, a board member of both Motociclistas Solidarios and Amedetqroo, outlined the competition details. Judges will evaluate technique, difficulty, control and safety, fluidity and transition, style, and audience interaction.

The tournament will feature four categories:

  • Low displacement for beginners
  • Low displacement for advanced riders
  • Medium displacement for advanced riders
  • High displacement

Gómez emphasized that women will also participate, noting that stunt riding is about skill and precision rather than strength.

Registration and Expected Participation

The five-member board is currently undergoing sports affiliation procedures. Gómez explained that the association is working on a registry to determine how many motorcyclists are in Quintana Roo.

While exact participant numbers are not yet known, Gómez estimated around 35 competitors. He noted that many riders register at the last minute, making precise counts difficult. At the recent MotoGP event at Cancún’s racetrack, 48 Quintana Roo athletes participated, joined by approximately 20 motorcyclists from other states.
