Cancún, Mexico — Cancún was awash in color and joy this weekend as it hosted the 2025 LGBTTIQ+ Pride March, drawing an estimated 5,000 participants to the "Vivo con Orgullo" (Live with Pride) Festival. The event, supported by the Benito Juárez City Council under the leadership of Municipal President Ana Paty Peralta, spanned from the iconic Malecón Tajamar to the recently renovated Parque de Las Palapas, where the "Drag Supreme" showcase took place.
A Historic Moment for Inclusion
Nohamy Hermida Nieves, Director of Sexual Diversity Affairs, emphasized the significance of the event, calling it a historic milestone as transgender women now hold prominent positions within the local government. "We are striving for real inclusion, and today we celebrate the progress made for diversity," Hermida stated. She also highlighted the need to advance human rights through awareness and visibility.
Bonampak and Tulum Avenues transformed into a vibrant stage as the LGBTTIQ+ community waved rainbow flags and sang their anthem, Todos Me Miran (Everyone Looks at Me), electrifying the crowd. The march reiterated demands to eradicate discrimination and called for safe spaces and universal respect for all.
Unity and Celebration
Among the participants was the Anglican Church of Mexico A.R., whose Diocese of Southeastern Mexico advocated for unity and inclusion under the motto Todos Somos Uno en Cristo Jesús (We Are All One in Christ Jesus). The event culminated in a spectacle at Parque de Las Palapas, where the "Drag Supreme" competition crowned Anniel Montt as the winner, followed by Sí Soy Izan and Yaten Star.
The festival’s closing ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, June 8, at 6:00 p.m., featuring performances by local, national, and international artists. The community is encouraged to continue celebrating diversity at this final event.
