Just a week after deploying 800 National Guard members in Quintana Roo, the Benito Juárez government has taken additional measures to enhance security in Cancún. Today, they handed over 127 new vehicles to the Municipal Secretary of Citizen Security and Traffic (SMSCyT). This move is intended to improve the resources available to the officers tasked with protecting this key tourist destination in the Mexican Caribbean.
Benito Juárez's municipal president, Ana Paty Peralta, stated that Cancún is transitioning towards a new model of citizen security. This was announced during the delivery of the 127 new patrol cars, all equipped with the latest technology.
Quintana Roo's governor, Mara Lezama Espinosa, emphasized that this step signifies a solid progression towards peace and tranquility in Cancún. "This is the result of teamwork and collaboration. The security of our people is of utmost importance," she said.
Ana Paty Peralta de la Peña, the municipal president of Benito Juárez, revealed that the purchase of the 127 vehicles required an investment of 124.4 million pesos. Since 2022, 147 officers have been dismissed due to misconduct, abuse of power, and corruption.
These measures demonstrate the Quintana Roo government's commitment to the security and well-being of Cancún's residents. They are ensuring that the police forces are better equipped to protect the city.
