Cancun Begins Rehabilitation of Andador de los Milagros in Hotel Zone

Cancun, Quintana Roo — Authorities have begun rehabilitating the Andador de los Milagros, a key pedestrian walkway leading to the beach in Cancun’s Hotel Zone, as part of a broader urban recovery strategy involving municipal and state governments as well as local property owners and merchants.

Hector Sanchez Tirado, director of the Municipal Institute of Urban Planning (IMPLAN) in Benito Juarez, said the goal is to standardize the area’s urban image and reclaim a space that has suffered physical and social deterioration in recent years.

“We need to renovate this area together with the private sector; we are taking action. Just last week there was a multi-agency operation because there are homeless people, but there are also issues with street furniture and many things to address in public spaces. All the owners, tenants, and the municipal and state governments are working on this specific zone,” Sanchez said.

Completed work includes replacement of concrete sections, lighting, bollards, and flooring, as well as infrastructure improvements to enhance the corridor’s appearance. Plans also call for murals and new street furniture to encourage revitalization.

Sanchez noted that results are already visible. “We have been working on mural designs so that in the short term we can leave this area adequate, attractive, and with a uniform urban image, so that people return to use it and economic activity picks up,” he said.

The official added that the project aims to encourage the reopening of closed businesses and build confidence among residents and tourists to use this access to Hotel Zone beaches. “The interest of private parties, tenants, and owners is to take actions so that people come back to this area, see the renovation, feel comfortable, can go to the beach safely and visit with full confidence,” he concluded.
