Cancún, Quintana Roo — The Benito Juárez Sports Institute has issued a formal prohibition on the use of pyrotechnics at organized sporting events in Cancún, responding to numerous citizen complaints about noise pollution and environmental disturbances.

Measure Enacted After Public Outcry

Alejandro Luna, head of the institute, stated that the decision follows repeated reports of excessive noise during matches and tournaments, which negatively impact residents and local wildlife, particularly dogs suffering from acoustic stress.

The ban was communicated directly to sports clubs and organizations in the municipality, urging them to avoid explosive devices during events. Violators will face tournament permit suspensions for up to six months as a punitive measure.

Prioritizing Community and Environmental Well-Being

The Sports Institute emphasized the policy’s goal of safeguarding public welfare, protecting the environment, and maintaining harmonious conditions in residential areas near sports facilities. Authorities called on organizers to comply to avoid sanctions and continue promoting sports without collateral disruptions.

The initiative reinforces the Benito Juárez municipal government’s commitment to responsible sports management and addressing citizen concerns.
