“Cancún Astri Triathlon 2024: 1500 Athletes, 6 Countries – A Sporting Sensation!”

The event strengthens Cancún's reputation as a prime location for sports tourism.

The Astri Cancún 2024 Triathlon was a resounding success, attracting over 1,500 athletes from six different countries. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Caribbean Sea, the event was launched as part of Cancún's 54th anniversary celebrations by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa.

At the start of the triathlon, Governor Espinosa delivered an inspiring speech to motivate the competitors. This is the second year in a row that the event has been held, with various formats starting as early as 6:00 am.

"This competition undeniably positions Cancún on the international sports stage. The Astri Cancún 2024 Triathlon showcases Cancún as a leading destination for high-performance sports," stated the Governor. She also extended her congratulations to all participants and their families who had travelled from afar to support the competitors. "Thank you for being a part of Cancún's 54-year journey," she added.

Governor Espinosa also expressed her support for the organization of the triathlon, which diversifies Cancún's appeal through sports tourism. This is part of the New Era of Tourism in the Mexican Caribbean, which aims to promote the region's 12 destinations with new, sustainable experiences and shared prosperity.

The second edition of the Cancún Triathlon is a special highlight of the 54th Anniversary celebrations of Cancún, the jewel of the Mexican Caribbean. The event was organized by the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council, the municipality of Benito Juárez, and Asdeporte.

Joining the Governor at the event were Pablo Gutiérrez, head of the municipal presidency of Benito Juárez, Jacobo Adrián Arzate Hop, head of the presidency of the Quintana Roo Sports Commission, Verónica Lezama Espinosa, honorary president of the Quintana Roo DIF System, and Nelly Becerra Priego, director of public relations for AS Deporte.
