Cancún Artisans and Entrepreneurs Launch Itinerant Tour to Showcase Local Products

Artisans and entrepreneurs display their products at a market in Cancún, Quintana Roo

Cancún, Quintana Roo — A group of artisans and entrepreneurs from Quintana Roo has launched an itinerant tour across Cancún, starting with a four-day showcase at the ADO bus terminal that concluded with strong sales. The initiative, organized by the Benito Juárez municipal government through its Municipal Welfare Secretariat, now moves to Parque Las Palapas.

Berenice Sosa Osorio, head of the Municipal Welfare Secretariat, explained that the program draws from a registry of 429 artisans and entrepreneurs who receive opportunities to present their products at fairs, international events, and major municipal activities like Janal Pixán, Villa Navideña, Carnival, and Guelaguetza. The registry also provides access to prominent locations including Malecón Tajamar, Puerto Juárez, and the ADO terminal.

The goal is to promote and support the work of these sectors, strengthen self-employment, and provide participation in fairs and training programs. Officials say this helps multiply talents that empower individuals, generate well-being, and preserve cultural identity while contributing to the city’s economic and social growth.

The artisans and entrepreneurs offer a wide range of products including dried seeds, various types of jewelry, traditional foods and sweets from different regions of Mexico, as well as handmade embroidery and clothing.

The registry highlights women’s significant role in economic development, with women comprising 78 percent of all registered participants. Among the 216 artisans, 172 are women (80 percent) and 44 are men (20 percent). The registry also includes 10 people with disabilities (8 women and 2 men) and 17 senior citizens (14 women and 2 men).

The entrepreneurs’ registry includes 213 citizens—163 women and 50 men—with women representing 76.5 percent and men 23.5 percent.

To join the unified registry and participate in municipal-organized activities, interested individuals must provide: a passport-sized photo, copy of official identification, proof of address, two product photos (one digital and one printed), a photo of themselves creating their product or craft, links to social media where they advertise their products, email address, and a completed registration form.

The Welfare Secretariat clarifies that applicants must submit a digital photo wearing a white shirt, blouse, or T-shirt against a white background. Digital images should be sent via WhatsApp. Participants must also provide their own 3×3 meter white canopy, folding table, and chairs for events.
