In the first half of the year, four locations in Quintana Roo, including three in the Riviera Maya and Cancun, led Mexico in hotel occupancy. These destinations were the top choices for vacationers. The Ministry of Tourism reported that Playacar and Akumal had the highest occupancy rates nationwide during this period, with Playacar at 89.9% and Akumal at 82.8%. These two destinations took first and second place among the six best-performing locations.

Nuevo Nayarit came in third with an 80.8% occupancy rate, followed by Cabo San Lucas at 80%. Cancun and Playa del Carmen took the fifth and sixth spots, with occupancy rates of 77.7% and 75.1% respectively.

The Ministry's report indicates that during this period, over 70 beach destinations across the country welcomed 17.8 million tourists. Quintana Roo offers a total of 133,031 rooms, with 69% located in the Cancun-Riviera Maya corridor. The four Caribbean destinations with the highest occupancy rates accounted for 4.7 million of these visitors, with Cancun's hotels accommodating 3.5 million.

The Ministry noted a significant influx of domestic, American, and Canadian tourists, leading to a 3% increase in visitor numbers. While city destinations also reported a good number of visitors in the first half of the year, beach destinations, particularly Fully Planned Centers, had the highest occupancy rates.

Mexico is among the top seven countries for hotel infrastructure, and continues to grow. By the end of the year, the Ministry expects to surpass the 2023 figures, when 22 million visitors traveled to and from the state.
