Cancún Airport Parking Fees and Faulty Payment Machines Draw Complaints

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Travelers using the parking lots at Cancún International Airport are complaining about steep rates and malfunctioning payment machines that reject cash and, in some cases, fail to print receipts.

The first hour of parking costs 50 pesos, with an additional 12 pesos charged for every 15 minutes after that. But several users said the payment kiosks at Terminals 2, 3 and 4 have been rejecting bills and coins, forcing them to waste time or seek help.

Passengers Rafael Sánchez, Clara Bermúdez and Pedro Olvera, along with transport operator Carlos Hernández, described the frustration of trying to pay at the kiosks only to have their cash refused. Some said they had to press the emergency button and were directed to pay at the exit booth with an attendant.

A worker for the private company that operates the airport said the failures are “normal” and can occur at any payment station.

Clara Bermúdez, who was dropping off her mother, said she ended up paying 50 pesos per hour because her mother’s flight was delayed, turning a quick visit into a costly one.

Another driver said the machine did not issue a receipt after payment, taking time to resolve. The kiosks also allow only 15 minutes of grace time, which several users said adds to the stress.

An American tourist posted on social media about similar problems, saying the defective machines cost her time and money. Another traveler said she struggled to enter the garage, then paid for three hours but received no ticket.

The complaints come as travelers at the airport also face other issues, including reportedly excessive taxi fares and a recent wave of consumer complaints against airlines filed with Profeco, Mexico’s consumer protection agency.
