Despite a rise in monkeypox cases, Cancun International Airport is yet to establish health protocols.
The airport continues to operate without any specific instructions from health authorities on how to handle potential cases of monkeypox and COVID-19. The lack of guidelines is concerning, especially as the number of suspected COVID-19 cases has been on the rise in recent weeks.
However, it's becoming increasingly common to see both passengers and airport staff wearing face masks. These masks are being used as a protective measure against both monkeypox and the SARS-COV-2 virus.
According to the latest report from the local Health Department, there have been five new COVID-19 cases and another seven are under observation. Additionally, hospital occupancy in the Northern Zone has seen a slight increase of 0.6 percent.
Despite these developments, health authorities have yet to reinstate the mandatory use of face masks at Cancun International Airport. However, some passengers have taken it upon themselves to wear masks in common areas as a precautionary measure.
The congregation of people at the airport poses a significant risk for the spread of both diseases.
