Cancún, Quintana Roo — This year, Quintana Roo will host seven Pride marches across the state, with Cancún’s event expected to draw up to 10,000 participants. Organizers are working to position the Cancún Pride march among the top five LGBTQ+ celebrations in Mexico, capitalizing on its economic and cultural impact.
A Growing Economic and Cultural Force
In 2019, Cancún’s LGBTQ+ tourism segment generated approximately 25 million pesos in economic activity, despite lacking dedicated spaces for the community. Recognizing this potential, Pride Cancún organizers are pushing to attract national attention to the event.
Under the slogan “We Exist All Year,” the Vive con Orgullo festival will take place from June 5 to 8, featuring cultural and artistic activities alongside the iconic Pride march. Linger Méndez, director of Pride Cancún, stated:
“This year, there will be seven marches across Quintana Roo. In Cancún alone, we anticipate between 9,000 and 10,000 attendees for the march and the cultural festival at Malecón Tajamar.”
The event serves as a platform for visibility and celebration for the LGBTQ+ community. Méndez emphasized efforts to promote Cancún’s march as a tourist attraction, noting the economic benefits seen in other cities.
“Mexico City’s Pride march draws thousands annually, followed by Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta. These events bring significant revenue to hotels, restaurants, and entertainment venues. We want that tourism here in Cancún and across Quintana Roo,” she said.
Pride March Details
The centerpiece of the festivities, the Pride march, is scheduled for June 7 at 4:00 PM at Malecón Tajamar. Organizers project attendance between 8,000 and 10,000 people. The route will include a stop at Plaza de la Reforma, in front of Benito Juárez City Hall, before concluding at Parque de las Palapas. The march aims to promote inclusivity and highlight the diversity of the LGBTQ+ community.

- June 14: Isla Mujeres
- June 21: Puerto Morelos
