Cancún, Quintana Roo — A woman was seriously injured on Thursday afternoon after being dragged by a public transport bus from the hotel zone as she was on her way to pick up her child from Colegio Caribe in Cancún's supermanzana 93.
The accident occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Francisco I. Madero Avenue, between 93rd and 91st North Streets, directly in front of San Antonio Park. Witnesses to the event immediately called the 911 emergency number to request support from paramedics and police officers.
According to witnesses, the woman, aged between 30 and 35, was wearing a military green blouse and a floral-patterned skirt. She was left lying face down on the pavement with visible injuries while several bystanders attempted to assist her before the ambulance arrived.
Accounts from the scene suggest the incident may have originated when the bus became entangled with a cable that was lying on the ground. As the vehicle moved forward, it pulled the cable with force and ended up dragging the woman, who was crossing the avenue on her way to the school to pick up her son. The pull caused her to fall violently against the pavement.
Minutes later, a private ambulance arrived. Its paramedics provided her with first aid and subsequently transported her to the IMSS Clinic for a more thorough medical evaluation.
Elements of the Transit Police conducted the corresponding forensic investigation and secured the area to prevent another incident. The bus driver was detained at the scene and placed at the disposal of the competent authorities for the determination of responsibilities.
