Tulum Official’s Brother Arrested for Drugs

Solidaridad, Quintana Roo — Police officers in this municipality have arrested the brother of Tulum's municipal trustee, Rifka Queruel, during an operation in which various illicit substances were allegedly found in his possession.

According to initial reports, the intervention took place on Thursday afternoon as part of surveillance patrols implemented at various points in the municipality. The individual was intercepted while driving a vehicle, and during a preventive inspection, officers found evidence that led to his immediate detention.

Authorities have not yet officially reported the type or quantity of drugs seized, but it was revealed that the detainee was transferred to the facilities of the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) in Playa del Carmen, where he was made available to the Public Prosecutor's Office for the initiation of corresponding investigations.

Investigation Underway

The case has garnered public attention due to the detainee's relationship with an active official of the Tulum City Council, a reason for which ministerial authorities are maintaining close oversight of the inquiries.

Sources close to the case indicated that the results of forensic tests will determine the legal situation of the individual involved. The state Attorney General's Office is expected to issue an official statement in the coming hours to report on the progress of the investigations.

Security Context in the Region

The arrest is part of the joint operations that police forces are carrying out in the northern zone of Quintana Roo to combat the distribution and consumption of narcotics. This effort is part of a security strategy implemented in coordination with state and municipal authorities in response to an increase in drug-related crimes in the region.
