Hit-and-Run Leaves Man Dead on Yucatán Highway

VALLADOLID, January 23. A tragic incident occurred early Friday morning on the federal Mérida-Valladolid highway, where a man died instantly after being brutally struck by a vehicle whose driver decided to flee, leaving the victim lying on the pavement.

The events took place at kilometer 9+200 of the aforementioned road. According to initial reports, the man had attempted to cross the street or was walking along the edge of the highway when he was fully impacted by a car traveling at excessive speed.

After the collision, the responsible party accelerated and fled, leaving the man as an unidentified individual with no possibility of receiving medical assistance.

Elements of the National Guard arrived at the site and proceeded to immediately cordon off the area to prevent other vehicles from passing over the body.

At the time of discovery, the man no longer showed vital signs due to the violence of the impact.

The area was guarded while experts from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) carried out the removal of the body for transfer to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo).

Authorities have already begun investigations and are reviewing nearby surveillance cameras to attempt to identify the characteristics of the vehicle involved and locate the driver who fled the scene.
