Sustainable Tech Provides Free Drinking Water in Cancún

Municipal President Ana Paty Peralta inspecting sustainable water dispenser at Kuchil Baxal gym

Cancún, Quintana Roo — As part of the Benito Juárez Municipality’s commitment to sustainability and social welfare, Municipal President Ana Paty Peralta oversaw the implementation of innovative technology that will provide accessible, free drinking water to citizens and municipal employees through sustainable equipment.

The Municipal President emphasized that this initiative responds to a vision of government that is responsible toward the environment and committed to modern solutions that improve the quality of life for Cancún families.

“We installed these completely free water dispensers with a sustainable, plastic-free mechanism for our athletes as well as for citizens. The machine works by extracting humidity from the environmental air to generate drinking water,” she said.

The project, she detailed, involves the installation of eight atmospheric water generator units with an estimated production capacity of 1,466 liters daily. Seven of these units produce 202 liters each, while one smaller unit generates 52 liters.

During an inspection tour of a dispenser located at the entrance of the Kuchil Baxal gym, Ana Paty Peralta indicated that other sites with this mechanism include: the Municipal Palace; Kabah Park; Benito Juárez DIF; Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security and Transit; Civil Registry next to Parque de las Palapas; the central fire station between Tulum and Chichén Itzá avenues; and subsequently, another will be placed at Kilometer Zero of Boulevard Kukulcán.

It is worth noting that this technology generates significant environmental impact by promoting zero use of plastic waste and groundwater, while also replicating natural processes without chemicals and with low energy consumption. The system functions through filtration of atmospheric air to extract humidity; condensation and internal treatment of generated water; mineralization and purification of the liquid; and supply of the same.
