Playa del Carmen, Mexico — A violent armed attack occurred inside Sergio’s Bar, located in the Gonzalo Guerrero neighborhood, resulting in the execution of the establishment’s owner. The incident took place during the late hours of Tuesday.

Attackers Posed as Customers Before Opening Fire

According to witness accounts, the assailants entered the bar disguised as patrons. Once inside, they located the victim and opened fire without warning. Despite employees immediately calling emergency services via 911, paramedics confirmed upon arrival that the man showed no signs of life.

Following the attack, municipal authorities cordoned off the area and requested the intervention of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) to conduct the necessary investigative procedures. While the motive remains unconfirmed, authorities are considering the possibilities of a targeted killing or an extortion-related “cobro de piso” (protection payment demand).

This marks the second violent incident at the same bar in less than a month, though no casualties were reported in the prior shooting. Investigators continue working to identify those responsible and determine the circumstances behind the crime.

Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity pending family notification. The case remains under investigation.
