Chetumal, Quintana Roo — The body of a man was discovered bagged on a ranch near the community of Subteniente López early Wednesday morning, with a sharp weapon and a threatening message left at the scene.

The grisly find was made around 2 a.m. after an emergency call alerted authorities to a possible body inside bags at a ranch called “El Rincón del Buitre,” located about 26 meters from the state highway leading to Subteniente López in Othón P. Blanco municipality.

Quintana Roo police officers, coordinating with investigative police agents, responded to the scene and confirmed the discovery of a man who was bagged and bound with brown tape.

Investigators also located a sharp weapon on the body and a cardboard sign with an intimidatory message. Preliminary inquiries indicate the deceased had a blunt force injury to the head.

The State Prosecutor’s Office was notified to begin a formal investigation. Criminal forensics experts from the Forensic Services Directorate, accompanied by a public prosecutor, conducted on-site procedures and ordered the body transferred to the Forensic Medical Service for an autopsy.

The man remains unidentified, as no identification was found among his belongings.
