Holbox. For two consecutive days, minor navigation at the port remained suspended due to adverse weather conditions, a measure that directly impacted the income of families dependent on maritime activity.
The Port Authority reported that the suspension was taken as a preventive measure in the face of strong winds and high waves, factors that pose a risk to vessels and their crews. Javier Martínez Marcos, acting head, emphasized that the decision sought to guarantee the safety of navigators and prevent accidents at sea.
“The integrity of those who work at sea is prioritized; the weather was not safe for sailing,” stated Martínez Marcos.
The measure generated concern among fishermen and tourism service providers, who pointed out that the inability to go out to fish or transport passengers caused significant economic losses. Many of them depend on daily income to support their families, so the temporary paralysis of the port had an immediate impact on their economy.
Despite the difficulties, the Port Authority reiterated that safety is the priority and urged the community to follow official communications before attempting to navigate, avoiding sailing without authorization in adverse conditions.
