Cancún, Quintana Roo — Federal and state authorities seized more than 275 kilograms of drugs during a highway checkpoint operation near Cancún on Tuesday, officials announced.

The bust occurred at a checkpoint on the Mérida–Cancún highway near Teya, close to the Tren Maya terminal. Police officers stopped a cargo van from the company “Ready To Rent” for a routine inspection, but the driver’s nervous and evasive behavior raised suspicions.

K9 units alerted officers to the rear of the vehicle, leading to a thorough search that uncovered over 250 kilograms of cannabis and more than 25 kilograms of methamphetamine.

Authorities quickly secured the area with a large-scale security deployment involving the State Investigation Police, Mexican Army, National Guard, and Federal Prosecutor’s Office personnel.

Police arrested the driver and turned him over to federal authorities for processing. Officials seized all the drugs as evidence for legal proceedings.
