Playa del Carmen, Mexico — State and municipal authorities have announced that the 2025 Honey Fair, titled "Tears of Golden Maya," will take place on July 31 and August 1 at Plaza 28 de Julio in Playa del Carmen. The event aims to promote local honey production and showcase products and byproducts derived from honey.
Promoting Local Apiculture
During a press conference, Alejandro López Acuña, Director of Agricultural and Fisheries Development for Playa del Carmen, revealed that 30 producers from across the state—including seven from the municipality—will participate in the fair. The event is designed to highlight the extensive potential of beekeeping in Quintana Roo.
Organized by the Secretariat of Agricultural, Rural, and Fisheries Development (Sedarpe) of the Quintana Roo government, the fair is supported by the Playa del Carmen municipal government, which has been a strong advocate for local beekeeping.
Economic and Tourism Shift
Antón Bojórquez, Secretary of Economic Development and Investment Attraction, emphasized that the municipal president’s directive is to connect local producers with consumers as part of the transition from an "All Inclusive" tourism model to a new economic and tourism strategy called "Todos Incluidos" (All Included).
"We are very pleased to host this major event, coinciding with the municipality’s 32nd anniversary and the rebirth of Playa del Carmen," Bojórquez stated, pledging full support for Sedarpe in organizing such initiatives.
A Space for Transformation and Shared Prosperity
Armando Ramos, a state official from Sedarpe, reiterated that the Honey Fair—the first of its kind in the state—seeks to bridge the gap between beekeepers and consumers across Quintana Roo.
"This gathering is a space for transformation, identity, and shared prosperity, driven by the humanist governments of Governor Mara Lezama and Municipal President Estefanía Mercado," Ramos explained.
He also highlighted honey’s numerous properties, including its role as a natural sweetener rich in proteins, carbohydrates, and vitamins, as well as its medicinal benefits.
