Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A total of 93 para-athletes from various municipalities in Quintana Roo successfully competed in the state qualifying round for the CONADE National Paraolympics 2025, securing their spots for the national phase of the competition next year.
The event, organized by the Quintana Roo State Sports Commission (CODEQ) under the leadership of Jacobo Arzate Hop, took place in Playa del Carmen, where athletes with disabilities showcased their talent and determination.
“We are very pleased and reaffirm that Quintana Roo has immense sporting talent, as demonstrated in this state Paraolympics qualifier. I am confident that we will be well represented at the CONADE National Paraolympics 2025,” stated the head of CODEQ.
Competitive Events and Participants
The sporting event featured competitions in Para-swimming and Para-athletics, both of which recorded official marks.
In Para-swimming, 26 athletes from Cozumel, Benito Juárez, Othón P. Blanco, and Playa del Carmen competed at the Riviera Maya Sports Complex. Meanwhile, 67 Para-athletics competitors from Benito Juárez, Cozumel, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, José María Morelos, Othón P. Blanco, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum gathered at the Mario Villanueva Madrid Sports Complex.
Quintana Roo will also participate in Boccia, Para Dance Sport, Para Powerlifting, and Para Table Tennis, disciplines in which athletes have already secured direct qualification for the national stage.
Ceremony and Officials
The opening ceremony was attended by Wilberth Flores Coral, CODEQ’s Northern Zone delegate; Paolo Sergio Montero, director of CRIT Quintana Roo; as well as sports directors Alberto López of Playa del Carmen and Nadia Salazar of Felipe Carrillo Puerto.
Next Steps
The selected state athletes will now prepare for the national phase of the CONADE Paraolympics 2025, scheduled to take place in Aguascalientes, though exact dates have yet to be confirmed.
