Tulum, Quintana Roo — A major security operation unfolded in Tulum’s Maya neighborhood Wednesday night after gunfire erupted during an attempted home invasion, leaving one man injured.
Authorities responded to multiple 911 calls from residents who reported hearing gunshots near the intersection of Luna and Jupiter streets, behind the Julio Ruelas elementary school. Police officers from multiple agencies quickly mobilized to the area.
Upon arrival, paramedics treated a man with a gunshot wound to his arm. The injured person received medical attention at the scene, though officials have not yet disclosed the severity of his injuries.
Preliminary information suggests at least three people participated in the attempted break-in at a residence in the area. Witnesses reported hearing approximately five gunshots during the incident, creating tense moments for neighborhood residents.
According to witnesses, the suspects fled before authorities arrived. One suspect was described as wearing a gray hoodie, blue pants, a gray shirt, and white sneakers, reportedly escaping on foot through nearby streets.
Police cordoned off the area to secure the crime scene while forensic specialists collected ballistic evidence. Officers also conducted patrols in surrounding areas in an attempt to locate the alleged attackers.
The incident caused concern among Maya neighborhood residents, many of whom reported hearing the multiple gunshots.
No arrests have been made as of Thursday morning. The State Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation to determine the circumstances of the armed attack and identify those responsible.
