Armed Group Kidnaps, Then Releases Young Man in Playa del Carmen in Apparent Case of Mistaken Identity
Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A young man was kidnapped Tuesday on Avenida Colosio by an armed group, beaten, and held overnight before being released Wednesday morning in what authorities believe was a case of mistaken identity.
The victim walked from Avenida Colosio to the intersection of Avenida Juarez and Calle 70, where he flagged down a passing police patrol. He told officers that on Tuesday, individuals in a black pickup truck forced him into the vehicle and drove him to an unknown location, where he was beaten and detained until Wednesday, when his captors returned him to the same spot where he had been abducted.
Multiple municipal police units and paramedics responded to the scene to attend to the victim. Officials have not ruled out that the kidnapping was a case of mistaken identity.
