Playa del Carmen, Mexico — Coco's Bienestar Animal is preparing for its sixth free sterilization campaign, with one thousand surgeries scheduled for dogs and cats. The procedures will be carried out on November 8, 9, and 10 in Playa del Carmen.

Laura Raikes, president and founder of Coco’s, announced that the event will take place at the Instituto de Capacitación para el Trabajo (ICAT), located on Calle 12, between Avenidas 90 and 95 in the Ejidal neighborhood of the city. Residents in need of sterilization services for their pets may attend after meeting certain requirements established by the non-governmental organization.

"Service during the campaign is free and does not require an appointment. Registration begins at seven in the morning and has limited capacity," stated Laura Raikes. "We will only issue tickets to people who are there with their patients, and those who bring patients must stay and wait on the premises until they are discharged with their post-operative care sheet. We will operate on healthy patients from two months of age up to ten years old. It is important not to bring animals younger than two months, or those that are sick, have diarrhea, or a cough; they must be healthy."

She emphasized that dogs must arrive on a leash, or with a muzzle if they are reactive; cats must be in a carrier, pillowcase, or cloth bag. They should never be brought loose.

"We remind the public that we are still raising funds to achieve this goal; we are short approximately 250 thousand pesos. No donation is too small; every peso counts," she noted. "They can also donate in-kind materials such as stationery, cleaning products, water, soft drinks, hydrating beverages, energy bars, chocolates, and chips."

More than 100 volunteers, who work without financial compensation, will be supporting this campaign for the animal welfare of Playa del Carmen. Veterinarians from Mexicali, Cozumel, Cancún, and Mérida will also be participating, alongside altruistic individuals from the United States and Canada.
