Quintana Roo, Mexico — Following recent cases of animal cruelty reported across the state, the government of Quintana Roo has shared detailed contact information for municipal authorities where residents can file complaints about violence against animals. The move comes amid growing public outrage over incidents such as the abuse of a three-month-old Chihuahua named "Osito" and a street dog named "Blu," who was severely injured with a machete in Cancún.
Recent Cases Spark Outrage
One of the most widely reported cases occurred in the community of Xul-Há in Bacalar, where "Osito," a three-month-old Chihuahua, was tied to a drone by a group of young individuals. The video of the incident circulated on social media, drawing attention from authorities who later rescued the dog. However, it remains unclear whether an investigation has been launched against those responsible.
In another disturbing incident, a street dog in Cancún, later named "Blu," was allegedly attacked with a machete by a man attempting to separate the animal from his pet during a fight between the two dogs. Witnesses alerted rescuers, including Orlando Alemán of the Huellitas Alemán Foundation, who documented the dog's injuries and transported him to a veterinary clinic for emergency care.
Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama later appeared in a video alongside Óscar Rébora, head of the Secretary of the Environment, to confirm Blu’s location and announce that the Attorney General’s Office would take custody of the dog while investigating the case.
