11 Animals Rescued from Alleged Abuse in Cancún Home

Property in Cancún's SM 95 where 11 animals were rescued from alleged abuse conditions

Cancún, Quintana Roo — A citizen report about the death of a dog under alleged abuse conditions in a residence in Supermanzana 95, where 9 other canines and 2 cats were crowded, prompted the mobilization of municipal police, the Animal Welfare Directorate, and the State Attorney General’s Office.

The initial reports indicated that the lifeless body of one of the animals was beginning to be devoured by the other dogs that were found in deplorable conditions in a small space, in one of the ground-floor apartments of a building located on Nichupte Avenue.

Municipal police officers arrived at the scene and corroborated the situation around 9:30 a.m. and requested the intervention of the Animal Welfare Directorate.

At that moment, there was no one in the property, and for this reason, the presence of Fire Department personnel was required to open the entrance gate of the residence.

The Animal Welfare staff used several transport crates to remove 9 dogs and 2 cats for transfer to the facilities of this department.

Subsequently, an elderly adult arrived at the location, who said he lived at this site, although neighbors indicated that the property was used to leave the dogs and he would occasionally come to provide them care.

Elements of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Environmental Crimes of the FGE arrived to initiate a legal procedure for this case of animal abuse, and the property owner was transferred to those offices for the corresponding procedures.
