El Rayo’s Nephew Gunned Down in Cancún Attack

Cancún, Quintana Roo — A young man, approximately 24 years old and allegedly the nephew of former police chief Felipe Mandujano, known as "El Rayo," was executed in a brazen armed attack this weekend in Cancún. Authorities suspect the killing may have been a targeted retaliation or settling of scores.

A Brutal Pursuit and Execution

The violent incident occurred in broad daylight on a public street in Region 233, specifically at the intersection of 78th and 33rd streets, Block 38. The victim, dressed entirely in black and identified as a Cancún native, sought refuge inside a grocery store named "Suly" after being pursued by armed assailants.

Witnesses reported that the attackers showed no hesitation, cornering the young man inside the store and gunning him down in front of horrified onlookers. Preliminary reports indicate the chase began near 27th and 90th streets, an area known for its weekly open-air market, where the initial gunfire erupted. The pursuit continued until the victim collapsed inside the store, fatally wounded.

Authorities Investigate Possible Motive

Private paramedics arrived at the scene but confirmed the victim had no vital signs. His body bore multiple gunshot wounds, including what appeared to be a fatal coup de grâce. Forensic experts and state investigators later processed the scene before transporting the body to the Medical Forensic Service (SEMEFO) for an autopsy.

Though not officially confirmed, relatives who arrived at the location identified the deceased as a direct relative of Felipe Mandujano, a controversial former police chief previously linked to security-related controversies.

The Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office has opened an investigation, focusing on the possibility of a revenge killing or criminal retaliation. No suspects have been identified or detained as of yet.

The execution has unsettled residents in Cancún’s working-class neighborhoods, reigniting fears over the persistent wave of criminal violence—even among individuals with ties to law enforcement structures.
