Cancún, Quintana Roo — The Aitana Foundation announced a charity run called “Kilómetros de Luz” to raise funds for pediatric cancer patients, scheduled for March 7 on the Puerto Morelos boardwalk.

Foundation representatives said the event aims to focus on strength, hope, and support for children and young people battling cancer, rather than the illness itself.

“Every kilometer run will represent treatments that continue, medications that arrive on time, medical studies, emotional support, and comprehensive accompaniment for families,” said Yusi Dizb Echeverría, president of the Aitana Foundation.

The organization has allocated over 30 million pesos to medical treatments over the past 14 years and now counts more than 80 survivors. Due to improved local care, over 75% of beneficiaries now receive treatment in Quintana Roo, up from just 25% previously, which often required patients to travel to other states.

Vanessa Margarita López Páez, director of the municipal DIF system, expressed enthusiasm for the city’s first collaboration with the foundation on such an initiative and invited the public to join the community run to raise awareness and social support for affected families.

Testimonials, like that of María Natalia Balam Sul, mother of a foundation beneficiary, highlight the impact of support ranging from surgeries and medications to emotional accompaniment and fulfilling patients’ dreams.

The 5-kilometer run starts at 7:00 p.m. on March 7 and is open to families, athletes, businesses, and the general public. Organizers emphasized it is more an awareness activity than a competition, with each step representing an opportunity for those fighting cancer.
