Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — The water and sewer concessionaire Aguakan, which operates in four municipalities of Quintana Roo, is promoting tourist well-being in Isla Mujeres with the construction of a new plant that will ensure a supply of potable water for everyone. This project not only improves the municipality's infrastructure but also ensures that both residents and visitors have access to reliable, quality water, an essential element for maintaining Isla Mujeres's reputation as a premier tourist destination.

Currently, Isla Mujeres depends on a submarine aqueduct connecting to Punta Sam, an infrastructure of almost six kilometers that can be affected by storms, sand movements, or navigation incidents, which at times causes interruptions in the water service. The new Aguakan plant will allow for local water production, reducing these risks and ensuring greater service continuity, even during the rainy or hurricane seasons. This means tourists can enjoy their vacations without worrying about water cuts in hotels, restaurants, bars, or their daily activities.

The Aguakan plant will have an initial production capacity of 15 liters per second, which can grow to 60 liters per second based on the island's needs. This ensures that during the high tourism season, when the island receives thousands of visitors, all hotels and businesses can operate normally.

Safe and Reliable Water, Key for Tourists and the Local Economy

The water provided by the Aguakan plant will be monitored and treated with international processes like reverse osmosis, ensuring it complies with official standards and guaranteeing safety and confidence for both tourists and the community. Water quality is a key element for attracting visitors and maintaining Isla Mujeres's reputation as a modern, safe, and reliable destination.

The project will also generate direct economic benefits. By reducing the possibility of business and hotel closures due to a lack of water, it protects jobs and strengthens the tourism sector, one of the pillars of the local economy.

Furthermore, with this plant, Isla Mujeres will be better prepared to serve a growing number of visitors in the future, consolidating its position as a reliable and comfortable destination. Ultimately, the new Aguakan plant not only ensures high-quality potable water but also boosts tourism, protects the local economy, and improves the experience for all visitors.
