Cancún, Mexico — A shipping company administrator has been formally charged after the Quintana Roo State Attorney General's Office accused him of involvement in two serious crimes: extortion and drug dealing. The individual was identified as Héctor Alejandro "N".
According to authorities, the suspect not only made threatening phone calls to pressure the owners of the company but was also involved in distributing marijuana. The case came to light on October 22, when investigative agents executed an arrest warrant related to an extortion case.
The man, who served as the general administrator of the maritime company, allegedly made suspicious phone calls demanding the suspension of internal audits. This occurred just as the company's owners discovered a financial shortfall within the business.
During a court hearing, the Attorney General's Office presented sufficient evidence, and a control judge ruled to formally charge the administrator with both crimes. Prosecutors also accused him of supplying marijuana, which added to his legal troubles.
Furthermore, the judge imposed a two-year preventative prison sentence, or until his legal process is concluded. This means the administrator will remain in custody while the investigation continues.
The Attorney General's Office stated that it will continue following lines of investigation to determine if the case has further ramifications, as initial evidence suggests the individual had been operating at the intersection of the corporate and criminal worlds.
